Well, The Black Hills Motorcycle Show did not disappoint. A lot of beautiful custom motorcycles on display there. Great crowd, wonderful atmosphere and a terrific sense of community in Deadwood. I had to pick a favorite and you know what a sucker I am for a sweet FXR. This one was a 16 year old build and I just loved how clean it is and some of the classic parts including one of our old vertical side mounts. The tank stretch was superb. Last pic is of a sweet little Slim we just redid for our friend Cindy. It looked great in this light! I think she won best Softail. Good times with all our Black Hills friends. I hope everyone reflects on those who gave all so we can enjoy our freedom and events like these. Me, I’ll be flying home. So, we installed one of our Razorback steel stretched tanks on our new Road Glide 3 build and had a beautiful seat made to match. However, when Deb showed up to buy the bike she was 5’ nothing and the seat and tank was really set up for someone much taller. I put the stock tank back on and it fit her great. Problem is she really wanted that gorgeous stretched tank look! No worries, I know a guy who solves these issues. Mikey took a fresh Razorback, cut the entire bottom out of it and we went to figuring out how we could move it a couple inches forward AND three inches down in the rear. This will allow her our killer stretched look but also let her sit farther forward and provide needed clearance for legs. It’s coming out great! There’s so much cutting / welding on the bottom of the tank we are calling it “Frankentank” 😂. Stay tuned, she’s flying in again next Saturday for a custom fit session. Hey! The AMSAF Gala was last night and the theme was Hawaiian! Rocket got us matching ensembles (we wore different color flip flops so folks could tell us apart). Suzy found herself a matching dress too! We downed a little Tequila to help not take ourselves too seriously, and off we went! The fund raiser was an awesome success, AMSAF does some great work in Arizona promoting motorcycle safety, sponsoring rider safety courses, providing helmets etc. I scored a Titanium membership at scottsdalegunclub and Tony of ramjetracing was the winner of dinner with yup, you guessed it…ME!! 😂 I think I see an evening of shooting and dining in our futures soon! Gary at duboispolishingandplating absolutely killed it on the chrome finish restoration on my vintage Kerker 2 into 2 megaphone exhaust system! I’ve wanted a set of these for one of my FXR’s for ever but you just never can find them. I originally was customizing these for the Throwdown build however, when Law Tigers took the police project over they added saddlebags and the Kerker would no longer fit. So, I scored a set of NOS Screaming Eagle heads and decided to do an engine hop up on my 1993 Anniversary FXLR. We dyno’d it yesterday in its current state, Andrew’s cam, Thunderheader, 40mm CV, Single fire ign. She made 72 horse power and 80 ft lbs of torque. So here’s a pic Rockets dad found of him riding his custom FXR to Sturgis! He was a teenager. We aren’t missing a minute on Rockets Sturgis Build! I’m telling you this dude is blessed!! We are in our fourth week since Lon, Rocket and I sat down to layout the redesign. So in less then 30 days we have: Torn the bike down completely / reimagined the bike as a hot rod FXRT / Sourced all the parts needed / Polished and plated the entire drive train / fabricated a tank, saddlebags, fairing, fenders, mounts, custom spoiler etc / torn the bike down and delivered everything to paint and powder coat. Today, I think day 28, Rocket is assembling his first 5 speed transmission for the build! I can’t believe we have started final assembly in less than a month! I remember the first time I saw the “Clyde Glide” completed… 🤯 The 90’s was a great time to be a bike builder! This mold breaker was built for Clyde “The Glide” Fessler by none other than Wyatt Fuller. Two iconic HD factory employees that had incredible vision. Clyde was responsible for the creation of a little thing called “HOG” The Harley Owners Group and if you’re wearing HD clothing you can thank Clyde. Wyatt was a brilliant designer, founded “Razorback” Motor Works and became the skunkworks man in HD’s private R&D lab. If you use detachable sissy bars or tourpacks, you can thank Wyatt. Both of these amazing talents have left us before their time, Wyatt loved experimental planes which unfortunately ended his time here and man I miss my Sturgis rides with Clyde… If you ever met him, you would never forget him!
